A Second World War Colliery Air Raid Wardens Badge
This badge was issued as a form of identification badge to those men charged with Air Raid Warden duties at the collieries belonging to the Midland Coal Owners Association. The badge obviously dates to the period 1939-45. Similar badges are known to have been issued by other Coal Owners and Colliery Companies. These include both the Kiverton and Babbington Coal Companies.
Actual badge measures 23 mm by 28 mm and has a button hole attachment on its reverse (picture courtesy of John Soppitt).
